Financial Headhunters Salary Guide

  • Personal Banker I/II
  • New Accounts Representative
  • Financial Services Representative

01

What does this hire really come down to?

Your branch output relies on staff who do more than count cash. You need a person who manages auto loan, personal loan, and HELOC applications while following bank risk protocols. This person must identify the specific documentation for each loan type and verify that every field is filled before submission.

Bankers change jobs when their current branch limits their ability to manage complex loan files or limits their access to product training. A banker often leaves because their current manager restricts their ability to work on larger credit applications. They look for a branch where they own the entire process for the products they sell.

We prioritize candidates who document loan files correctly the first time. We look for someone who understands that a missing document stops funding and creates an error in the loan file. This hire is about finding the banker who owns the applicant relationship from the first inquiry to the final loan closing.

02

Where do we find them?

We find candidates inside active bank and credit union branches. These people currently manage high volumes of customer interactions and loan applications every day. We look for bankers at smaller branches who seek a larger, more complex role where they can manage a wider variety of loan products.

These bankers move when they want to focus on loan origination rather than processing basic deposits. They seek branches where they can follow formal loan origination systems and meet strict regulatory standards. We ask if their current bank prevents them from managing the volume of loans they want to handle.

To source candidates for your branch, we look at local credit unions and community banks where staff handle end to end consumer lending rather than simple transactional work. Many bankers consider a move because their current institution prioritizes simple deposit volumes over the complex loan processing they prefer. We look for individuals who are currently capped at small loan limits or restricted to basic accounts. When we speak with them, we ask what specific documentation requirements they manage for their current HELOC files. If they cannot identify specific regulatory forms or how they verify income for self-employed applicants, we know they are not ready for your requirements. This helps us confirm if they actually hold the independence you need to process files without daily oversight.

A major tradeoff that drives a quality banker to move is the desire to own the entire loan file from application to funding. We identify candidates who express frustration with centralized processing departments that take control of their files once the initial application is submitted. To determine if your branch is the right fit, we ask candidates to walk us through the last audit finding they received on a personal loan file and how they corrected it. An answer that shows a deep grasp of specific risk protocol and audit mitigation signals a high level of autonomy. If their only answer involves waiting for a manager to resolve the issue, they are not the person who will own your loan pipeline.

  • 01Focusing on transaction speed instead of loan file accuracy, which leads to audit failures and loan funding delays.
  • 02Hiring based on general customer service history without verifying if they have ever processed a home equity or auto loan file.
  • 03Ignoring signs of repetitive errors in their prior loan files and hoping internal training will change their work habits.

03

The search in three steps

We follow a three-part process to identify your next banker.

We screen candidates against your specific loan product list and regulatory requirements.

We present individuals who maintain their own loan pipelines from application to closing.

We conduct an initial screening to confirm they hold the correct licenses and understand your specific loan compliance rules. We provide details on how they manage a loan pipeline and why they decided to approve or deny high-touch client files. We coordinate interviews that focus on their direct experience with branch audits and financial disclosure errors.

How your Personal Banker search runs

How does The Six-Step Search work?

One sequence, from a well-defined seat to a shortlist you can judge.

  1. Search Calibration

We start with a call about the seat, the books, the owners and the people the hire will work with. We learn what the role must fix in the first year and what would make a candidate wrong even if the resume looks right.

You get: A written search brief: scope, must-haves, deal-breakers and the pay range, agreed with you.

  2. Market Mapping

We map the companies and institutions where the right people already work: similar size, similar ownership, similar complexity, in your market and in others.

You get: The target list of companies and institutions we will search, reviewed with you before outreach.

  3. Professional Contact Intelligence

We find direct ways to reach the people on the map. Most are employed and not reading job boards, so reaching them takes real research.

You get: Direct routes to people who are not on job boards, researched for your search.

  4. Persistent Personalized Outreach

We call and write to people individually and follow up. Interest varies, so we discuss the actual opportunity rather than promising a particular response.

You get: One-to-one conversations about your actual role, followed up, never a mass email blast.

  5. Live Candidate Qualification

We speak with every candidate before you do. We check scope, systems, reporting lines, compensation expectations, location and why they would move.

You get: Only candidates we have spoken with, checked on scope, systems, pay, location and motive.

  6. Candidate Intelligence and Process Support

You receive a short written brief on each finalist covering what they have done, where they are thin and what they want. Then we help with interviews, references and the offer.

You get: A short written brief on each finalist, plus help with interviews, references, counteroffer risk and the offer.

Questions people ask

How soon can we expect a shortlist?

We start contacting candidates as soon as we agree on the requirements for the loan types you need to fill. We give you updates as we qualify individuals but we do not promise a specific date for a final list.

How do you evaluate candidate fit?

We ask candidates to describe their process for handling specific loan documentation and resolving audit findings. We do not use general resume reviews, choosing instead to focus on their actual experience with branch software and regulation.

What if our top candidate accepts a counteroffer?

We discuss their specific reasons for wanting to move jobs early in the process. If a candidate is not committed to leaving their current bank, we do not send them to your interview.

Is this search confidential?

We conduct every search so that no information reaches the candidate's current bank. We define a communication plan before we mention your branch to any potential hire.

How is your fee structured?

We work on a contingency basis for this search. You only pay a fee if you hire a candidate that we present based on the terms we sign before the search begins.

What is your guarantee?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What don't you do?

We do not post your Personal Banker job and forward whoever applies. We do not send stacks of unscreened resumes, and we do not recruit outside accounting, finance, banking and insurance.
