The short version

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire.

You tell us about the seat. We research the market, reach people who are already employed, talk to them ourselves and send you written briefs on the ones worth meeting.

1. Calibration

We start with a call. We want to know why the seat is open, what the person will own, who they will report to, what the systems are and what the first year must deliver.

We also ask what has gone wrong before. A bad hire usually tells us more about the real requirements than the job description does.

2. Mapping

We build a list of companies where the right people likely work. We look at size, ownership, industry, reporting complexity and geography.

For a PE-backed Controller we look at other sponsor-backed businesses first. For an owner-led company we look at businesses that have grown through the same stage.

3. Contact research

A name on a list is not a contact. We find direct ways to reach people, and we verify who actually holds which role.

This is slow work and it is where many searches get cut short. We do not cut it short.

4. Persistent outreach

We call and write to people one at a time. Most strong candidates do not reply on the first attempt because they are busy and not looking.

We follow up, we answer questions honestly, and we do not push anyone toward a role that does not suit them.

5. Live qualification

We speak with every candidate before you meet them. We check scope, tenure, systems, team size, who owned the close, compensation expectations and the real reason they would move.

We won’t waste your time with candidates that don’t make sense. We don’t cut corners.

6. Candidate brief

Each finalist comes with a written brief: what they have done, where they are thin, what they want and what we think. We then help you schedule interviews, run references and work through the offer.

Guarantee

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

How your search runs

How does The Six-Step Search work?

We agree what the hire must own at intake. We research the relevant market and contact working people directly. We qualify their experience and reasons for moving before you see a shortlist. We support the interviews and offer discussion; you decide whom to hire.

One sequence, from a well-defined seat to a shortlist you can judge.

  1. Search Calibration

We start with a call about the seat, the books, the owners and the people the hire will work with. We learn what the role must fix in the first year and what would make a candidate wrong even if the resume looks right.

You get: A written search brief: scope, must-haves, deal-breakers and the pay range, agreed with you.

  2. Market Mapping

We map the companies and institutions where the right people already work: similar size, similar ownership, similar complexity, in your market and in others.

You get: The target list of companies and institutions we will search, reviewed with you before outreach.

  3. Professional Contact Intelligence

We find direct ways to reach the people on the map. Most are employed and not reading job boards, so reaching them takes real research.

You get: Direct routes to people who are not on job boards, researched for your search.

  4. Persistent Personalized Outreach

We call and write to people individually and follow up. Interest varies, so we discuss the actual opportunity rather than promising a particular response.

You get: One-to-one conversations about your actual role, followed up, never a mass email blast.

  5. Live Candidate Qualification

We speak with every candidate before you do. We check scope, systems, reporting lines, compensation expectations, location and why they would move.

You get: Only candidates we have spoken with, checked on scope, systems, pay, location and motive.

  6. Candidate Intelligence and Process Support

You receive a short written brief on each finalist covering what they have done, where they are thin and what they want. Then we help with interviews, references and the offer.

You get: A short written brief on each finalist, plus help with interviews, references, counteroffer risk and the offer.

Questions people ask

How long does a search take?

It depends on the seat, location and pay. We give you an honest read after calibration. We do not promise dates we do not control.

Do I need to post the job?

No. Many of our searches are never posted. You can post it as well if you want.

Who talks to candidates?

We do, before you do. Every candidate you meet has been qualified live by us.

What is the fee for a finance search?

No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire. The fee and terms are agreed in writing before we start.

What about counteroffers on a finance hire?

We ask every finance candidate early why they would move and what their employer might do to keep them. Counteroffer risk goes in the written brief before you make an offer.

What is your guarantee?

We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.

What don't you do?

We do not post your finance job and forward whoever applies. We do not send stacks of unscreened resumes, and we do not recruit outside accounting, finance, banking and insurance.
